Different types of email marketing:

Email newsletters – these are usually regular communication giving valuable information, tips, updates to subscribers. This is a great way to build up your brand recognition so that your company is visible to people when they are in the market for what you are offering.
Viral marketing – this is where you will offer a prize to people who refer a few of their friends / contacts to you in exchange for entry into the draw. This is good way to build up your database, depending on how attractive the prize is, of course. For instance offering an all expenses weekend for you and 3 couples at a 5 star game reserve is much more appealing and will get a better response than offering a free assessment on your household insurance.

A note about permission and privacy:

in accordance with the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 (excerpt below)(http://www.acts.co.za/ect_act/) Cantaloupe will give the option on each email for the recipient to unsubscribe from receiving further email communication and advise that you be able to say where you got the recipients details from should this ever be requested.

Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 – Any person who sends unsolicited commercial communications to consumers, must provide the consumer
a) with the option to cancel his or her subscription to the mailing list of that person; and
b) with the identifying particulars of the source from which that person obtained the consumer’s personal information, on request of the consumer.
